A Library Built for Community Life
Libraries have always connected people to knowledge. Today, they also connect people to one another. They are places where learning, curiosity, and community come together in ways that strengthen the neighborhoods they serve.

At the heart of every thriving community is a place where people feel welcome to gather, discover, and grow. Libraries serve as that cornerstone and bring neighbors together through shared experiences, lifelong learning, and spaces designed to inspire connection.
Libraries are where communities grow stronger.
They create opportunities to learn, connect, and discover. More than places to access information, they are places where people gather, ideas are shared, and a sense of belonging takes shape.
The Marksbury Family Branch was envisioned as more than a replacement for Lexington’s former Village Branch. It was an opportunity to create a welcoming community destination designed around the needs of the people it serves. The library honors its traditional role while creating new opportunities for people to learn, create, connect, and gather. Flexible spaces support everything from after-school programs and job fairs to presentations, studying, making, and community events, allowing the building to evolve alongside the people it serves.

At the heart of the library is the Marketplace, a light-filled gathering space that welcomes everything from everyday conversations to watch parties, gaming tournaments, art fairs, and community events. An outdoor amphitheater extends the library beyond its walls, creating a flexible venue for performances and year-round programming. Together, these spaces reflect a library designed to evolve with its community, supporting new opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection for generations to come.
